Editorial

Editing is the process by which text, information or other written and printed matter is checked in preparation for presentation or publication.  Editrix offers copy editing in various forms and can be done on hard copy or on screen. 

Substantive Editing

Presentation, content, scope, length and level of text is improved, organised and possibly reconstructed or rewritten in collaboration with the client.  Potentially defamatory or libellous material is identified.

Editing for Sense and Consistency

Wording and text is examined in detail.  Grammar, spelling and punctuation is corrected, headings checked for consistency, and cross references for accuracy. Any copyright clearances are queried for permissions from relevant sources.

Proofreading
 
Proofs are checked in three ways:

• Blind proofreading whereby the proof is not cross-checked with the original typescript but examined by itself for errors

• Cross-checking the proof against the original typescript

• Cross-checking the proof against the original typescript followed by a separate blind proofread

Proofreading for publishers or commercial publication can be colour coded for typesetting.

Manuscripts
